MEMSA Golf Day 2023 - Post Event Snapshot

Golfing for a good cause....what could be more rewarding!

A big thank you to everyone who had a hand in the success of the 2023 MEMSA Annual Golf Day.

Despite a delayed start and a spot of lightning - which threatened to put a damper on the day, we can honestly say that fun was had by all. Our hole-sponsors pulled out all the stops ensuring the golfers were well fed, watered and entertained around the course.

Golfers were spoilt with sponsored goodies from KAMA Coils, Reunko Steel, MEM Works and Jonsson Workwear. The cooler-boxes and branded waters were supplied by Phillips Global and golf towels from Nerospec.

The custom made golf shirts - sponsored by JA Engineering Works and made by Igalofu Apparel were adorned with underground mining machinery and were a real talking-point. As were the Versus customised socks sponsored by NTGR Engineering Projects in aid of our charity partner The Boikanyo Foundation.

Congratulations to all the winning teams and most particularly to Gareth Williams for his Hole-in-one. Thank you for generously donating R5k to Boikanyo in lieu of buying a round of drinks.

I think we can all agree it was the prize-giving dinner which was the highlight of the day. We were honoured to host many special guests from the industry and in some cases even put them to work -

PS. Julie Courtnage, CEO of the Mandela Mining Precinct makes an excellent auctioneer assistant!

The venue looked fantastic with artfully crafted centerpieces by Horona, while the wines sponsored by our newest members Afromix added to the infectious and often rowdy atmosphere. MEMSA CEO, Lehlohonolo was on fire as he and his trusty assistant drove up the auction prices of sports memorabilia and a Creamer Media full page advert - Inside Back Cover of any upcoming edition of Engineering News & Mining Weekly print magazine and in total an impressive R133k was raised for Boikanyo.

Lastly, thank you to Eagle Canyon for hosting our golf day again this year, the MEMSA Board, our members, golfers, sponsors, our energetic MC Mr. Bokang Kelepa, the MEMSA team, and honoured guests - you are the best!

A toast to South Africa

To the land and the people we love,

To the leaders, industrialists and the workers who continue to build the nation,

To the parents and to the generation that follow,

Khotso pula nala – Peace, rain, prosperity

Our Winners!

The Best Lady Golfer was won by Lindiwe Nkosi We were thrilled to welcome 13 lady golfers for this years event, and we hope to encourage more ladies to enter next year.

Nearest the Pin ended up as a Hole-in-One for Gareth Williams off his very first shot of the day!

Longest Drive winner walked away with a lovely prize sponsored by Igalofu and a great big smile.

The First Place Fourball prizes were accepted by Warren Mitchell on behalf of the Enterprises University of Pretoria Guest Team.

Second Place Fourball was won by Team Hydro Power Systems (HPS) - Maarten van Jaarsveld, JP Adlem, Neels Aldrich and Morne van Wyk.

Third Place Fourball was won by Team Lekoa TechnologiesTeboho Pisto, Thabiso Makhele, Tebele Nkawe and Katlego.

2022 MEMSA Golf Day

MEMSA Annual Golf Day 2022

The sun was shining, the course in fantastic shape, the tee-boxes manned, and the atmosphere festive, exactly the combination needed for a successful networking golf day.

Golf is making a comeback as a valuable tool in doing business, with its popularity and global appeal making it an ideal way to develop customers and build relationships. Time spent with customers or colleagues on the golf course in a relaxed setting with a shared love of the game gives golfers a common bond, and successful executives contend that some of their most effective networking and best deals occurred on the golf course.

With a full field we opted for a shotgun start. After their round players congregated on the deck for sundowners and a 'Sunset Shootout' with the nearest the pin prize and bragging rights going to Braam Smit from AZMET Technology and Projects

Last year MEMSA was proud to partner with The Character Company, a MENtorship programme which teaches young boys without fathers or positive male role models to be 'good men', and the proceeds from the auction prizes went to this wonderful cause.

Congratulations to Reunko Steel Suppliers and AZMET Technology and Projects, on winning their respective auction prizes.

Thank you Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery Electra Mining Africa, Manufacturing Indaba Siyenza Events, DMG Events West African Mining & Energy Expo (WAMPEX), and Nkonyeni Golf Estate, Eswatini for sponsoring the auction prizes and helping us raise R75k for this wonderful charity.

Mr. Bafana Mabindisa kindly volunteered (on his wedding anniversary) to be the MC for the prize-giving dinner and did double duty as the auctioneer for the evening. MEMSA thanks you for giving freely of your time, especially on such an important date.

For the cluster it is about bringing people together, and this was only possible with the support of our sponsors:

  • Phillips Global
  • Kama Coils & Transformers
  • Eagle Canyon Golf Estate
  • Igalofu Apparel
  • Rham Equipment
  • Reunko Steel Suppliers
  • OneLogix
  • K Ndu
  • Say it Have it Construction & Projects
  • Paramount Tracks
  • ArcelorMittal
  • Total Energies
  • Horona
  • JA Engineering Works
  • WOW Concepts / Marketing 2 the Max

Check out the photos

Last, but by no means least, a warm congratulations to the golf prize winners of the day:

  • Best Lady Golfer - Nondumiso Mdodana
  • Nearest the Pin - Vincent Kekana
  • Longest Drive - Peter Nsoko
  • Best Tee Box Sponsor - OneLogix
  • 1st Place Fourball - Momentum (112 points)
  • 2nd Place Fourball - Ayana Operations (107 points)
  • 3rd - AZMET Technology & Projects (106 points)

And the winner of the Ossie Carstens Floating Trophy Best Individual Player - Ruan Kukard

A very big thank you to Eagle Canyon Golf Estate and the MEMSA team for your warm hospitality and congratulations on a well executed day.

Below are a few photos of the day.
