The four 2022 MEMSA Manufacturing Excellence Awards categories give mining equipment manufacturing companies the opportunity to showcase their achievements in customer service, strategic use of technology, building their people, and re-industrialising South Africa.

The categories are Customised Customer Service; Manufacturing Solutions, Localisation, and MEMSA Member Manufacturer of the Year 2022 - an exclusive category for members only.

South African manufacturers are widely respected for their expertise in developing solutions for challenging environments. Mines, as customers, have complex & evolving equipment requirements.

This award recognises the adoption of new or unique project technologies &processes within the manufacturing plant, to provide appropriate

solutions for the end user.


This category is for MEMSA members only & focuses on the company who has consistently and continuously improved their management, operations, health & safety and environmental standards.

What to Submit

  • A completed entry form in both Word and pdf format with completed signature page.
  • Each company may enter for a maximum of three categories.


* Note that NO additional text, visual material, or web links submitted with an entry will be considered by the judges.


Entry Requirements

  • The Manufacturing Excellence Awards focus on the South African mining equipment industry and to qualify, a company must be at least 26% South African owned.
  • The company must manufacture products within South Africa, for the mining industry.
  • Relevant products include equipment, components, machinery, or systems, used in the mining process (ore extraction), both surface or underground, and minerals handling and processing.

Competition Rules

  1. Each company may submit entries for a maximum of 3 categories.
  2. Entries must be submitted as indicated on the entry form by no later than Friday 30 September 2022 either via the MEMSA Glue Up platform.
  3. The judges' decision is final and entries will be judged against other entries in the same category.
  4. Incomplete entry forms may be excluded.
  5. MEMSA or the judges may contact entrants to request further information from the entrant or their client(s).
  6. A winner will be selected in each category where the there are three or more entries OR the judges deem at least one entry to represent above average achievement. 
  7. Winners will receive a trophy and certificate. 
  8. Winners and companies receiving honourable mention will receive publicity via industry media, as well as the MEMSA website and social media platforms. MEMSA reserves the right to publish images and details of entrants and entries into the awards ceremony via its media partners, print and social media platforms, as well as on the MEMSA social media platforms.
  9. Finalists will be announced in the week of 31 October 2022 and will be expected to have at least one representative participate in the in-person awards ceremony.
  10. Entrants agree to be bound by the terms of the Entry Form and these Entry Guidelines and Rules and by the decisions of the judges, which are at the sole and absolute discretion of the judges and are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this competition.
  11. No purchase is necessary to participate. Any taxes payable on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winners.
  12. The MEMSA Manufacturing Excellence Award rules are subject to modification by MEMSA at MEMSA's sole discretion. MEMSA reserves the right to verify the qualifications of each entry and to disqualify ineligible entries.
  13. MEMSA is not responsible for lost, late, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries, or for human error or any computer, online, telephone, or technical malfunctions that may occur.
  14. All entries become the property of MEMSA and will not be returned.
  15. Any failure to adhere to these Rules may result in disqualification from the competition.

The Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa (SEIFSA) will celebrate companies in the Metal and Engineering (M&E) sector that have displayed innovation, competitiveness and excellence at the 2022 SEIFSA Awards for Excellence. SEIFSA is calling on employers in the sector – including those that are not SEIFSA members – to speak up and have their voices heard by entering the Awards for Excellence, which provide a platform to celebrate your achievements.
